Ella Littwitz interest in changes in cultural principles, especially if these are manifested in the removal of objects utilizing strategies of extraction and displacement. Yesterday addresses a shift in the political “compass” of Israeli society. The work is a black cast basalt image of a portion of the original white limestone wall created by Dani Karavan as the main focus of the Israeli Knesset. The recreation of a white, soft stone into black-hardened cast basalt reflects on the disappointment of the Zionist promise. Significantly, a circular shape in Karavan’s wall – maybe representing the setting sun - has been removed from Littwitz’s version.
